Hmm... - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
catvalente has a thought-provoking post about the direction she approaches her writing from that sounds quite a lot like the way I work myself. In particular, this is a good description of what I was flailing away at the other day -- that sense of the worldbuilding being incidental to the Story, in a genre where the whizbanginess of it all tends to hog the stage if it's not watched closely enough. Now considering whether her point on fairy-tales might be helpful RE future revisions to the Query Letter...

In what passes for my real life (ha), we now have Sink again, and it is Good. It turns out that the blockage was something to do with the main line downstairs, which I would be willing to bet has something to do with the laundry room's propensity of late to flood. So Creepy Maintainance Guy and his sidekick Guatemalan Drywall Boy are out of my hair until the next thing that goes wrong; maybe now I'll finally be able to relax enough to get back into the groove of writing, keep your fingers crossed.

No Olympics snark to report for the last couple of days, it's all been team sports to the point where I wandered off in disgust. Although there was one remark about "butterflies swimmming around in your stomach" that I did take note of during some one of the running-jumping-climbing-trees bits. Already in speedo withdrawal, I think.

Oh, and, bwah! I think she'd be tickled to see everybody going, "...did I have her on my dead pool list?" :)
