Random cruel thoughts on the Olympics, day 5: Okay, who's the joker who let Paul Hamm at the helium right before his big moment...? My, that's one unfortunate speaking voice. Reminds me a little of a lecture I attended with Mum once, after which I leaned towards her and whispered, regarding the gentleman who'd just been speaking, "Eleanor Roosevelt" -- to which she instantly whispered back, "Julia Child"... {shudder} Why do all the gymnasts, male and female, sound all alvin-and-the-chipmunks like that? They're tiny, but they're not Munchkins, for god's sake.

10:25 on day two of the plumber vigil. I'm hungry and I'm out of forks, damn it.

I suspect that may fall into the same category of reason that keeps gymnasts and figure skaters from hitting puberty until they're in their mid-teens. The body simply doesn't want to make the change from child to adult in a body that is so stressed to work as hard as they are. It may also keep them from developing fully adult voices until late or even not at all. Just a thought....

Eat sushi, it requires no forks.

I guess what creeps me out about Hamm in particular is that his voice is actually squeakier than Carly Patterson's...

I just got done watching Badminton. As an Olympic sport. Erm.

Pairs swatting a shuttlecock to and fro. Thrilling.
