I hate this part. - Diary of a Necromancer — LiveJournal
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
I hate this part.
OK, so, writers out there: how do you tell the difference between genuine concerns about whether a story is working properly in terms of where you mean to go with it, and Brainweasels trying to convince you that DOOM IS YOUR LOT and this idea was never going to work in the first place and there's still time to give up before anyone sees you? Because I seem to be thoroughly mired in the 3/4 Of The Way Along Slough Of Self-Doubt, here.

Give it to alpha/beta readers and ask them about their impression, maybe?

(Im still at the "get the brainweasels out of the way for long enough to actually write"-stage XD)

1. Remind myself that I do this every time, and that Neil Freaking Gaiman apparently does this every time, and go do something that restores spoons for a few hours even if I'm up against deadline.

2. Alpha readers.

3. Write dumbass out-of-continuity scenes where the characters complain about the plot through the 4th wall, or the character-most-likely-to-monologue monologues, which is at least good for a laugh and sometimes for figuring out what happens next.

2. Alpha readers.

The main problem right now is that what's left to write are basically the blue-sky-pieces again -- the key points are more or less all there in the right order, what I can't seem to do is get all of the disconnected sentences strung together with the rest of the words. If you'd have time/inclination in the next couple of days to look over a ransom-note of unfleshed bones I could send what I've got at that point along, let me know...

As I recall, that's about the state the last one was in when I first saw it--we'll happily do our best, barring baby-foo. (There was a lot of foo tonight; hopefully tomorrow will be less so.)
