{sigh} - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
I really need to start keeping a Skippy's List for my Muse. The latest attempted atrocity would be "No matter how much in-character it may be, I am not allowed to name Jason's theoretical future restaurant 'BAAAAABYanimals!'"...

In other Writing News, I have just spent four hours doing research for the backstory of a very minor character and now I am even more confused than when I started.

FYI, I have now read through the existing Hiraeth installments, and made notes towards a Dramatis Personae. Now, I just need to type them up. A few preliminary notes :

* There is not enough information in the story proper to correctly infer Trevor's age - the relevant bit is in the Advent Calender. Turning the last bit of that into a vignette proper would solve this (and clarify some Jason-stuff nicely).

* Jason appears to have too many grandmothers.

* Do you really want to give your family of werewolves the last name Turner?

Yay! OK, um, in turn:

* The bit that's under the knife to be the next (or next-but-one, depending on the order they happen to get finished in) is actually going to address that outright... or as outright as Trevor ever seems to want to address things...

* How many does he have? I count Nanah June (Michael's side) and Susan's late mother; there's also a great-grandmother still living but I don't think she's been mentioned yet.

* ...Crap, I only googled for plausible-for-nationality and not-being-a-known-serial-killer, have I missed something? (It's not the werewolf side as it is, Susan still goes by Olafsen professionally.) *EDIT* ...Or was it RE the pun, which you will have to imagine me facepalming to as Muse cackles is the background? In which case, yes, absolutely. ;)

Trevor has so far refered to:
*'Jason's Gran who lives in Canada' (ep 3)
*Jason's grandmother who lives in Minnesota, speaks Swedish & doesn't like to speak English (all this in the present tense) (ep 14) (Or was that the great-grandmother? I don't think it's clear from the text.)
*Nanah June (ep 33)
*'Susan's late mother' (ep 33)
If 'Jason's Gran' and 'Nanah June' are the same person, and the Minnesotan one is a Great-Grandmother, then that would explain it, but you probably want to clean up the references.

And yes, I meant the pun. (If Susan still goes by Olafsen, that might be a good thing to mention - I guess that's what the DP is for ...)

Aha -- "Jason's Gran" and "Nanah June" are the same person (I'll go back and change Gran to Nanah, since that came along as a later character-development idea), and yes, the Swedish-speaker is Susan's grandmother, forgot that she's already in the text. This is more or less what I've got for Jason's immediate family so far:

Which is why Gran Lindstrom's first language is Swedish -- she goes all the way back to a generation where even if she was born in the US herself her family were relatively recent immigrants. As to the names, I missed that because I think of it as Michael's side, which I suppose is why it's a good idea to get as many eyeballs working on these things as I can... (Jason, FWIW, does go by the hyphenated form on his legal paperwork, although the other two have more or less gone to using just Turner because, as Button-Down says, it's only funny the first dozen times they look at you like why is the big bald black guy answering to the Minnewegian name...)
