Gentlemen, it's worse than we thought. This... is a cherry tomato. - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up

Gentlemen, it's worse than we thought. This... is a cherry tomato.
YarnCon went much better than last year, because there was Parking and also No Hail (which is sort of like managing to do the Tea and No Tea simultaneously thing, at certain times of the year), but man, have I been trashed these past few days. No energy and... um... lingering complaints which we shall leave unspecified because you really don't want to know, have had me in a mood to do little more than sit in front of the tv and knit all week. Which is rarely a good idea for extended periods like that. Did I mention that I was already thinking that cybermats were kind of cuddly...?

...This can't be good.

Yes, cybermats should properly be more of a silver color, but this was the nearest match in the stash and I wasn't about to spend money on this daft idea. I didn't catch whether the new version had the fringe on the bottom to hide the wheels like the ones circa Tomb of the Cybermen, but he looked kind of... rude without it. And he doesn't have teeth because that's just disturbing on a plush toy, but the wrap-and-turns are kind of suggestive of a mouth, now I look at him...

I made this up as I went, it's basically a toe-up sock tapering to a point instead of becoming an instep; if you want to make one, because I know some of you are already going "...hmmm", it would go something like:

Working on DPNs, provisionally CO 20 sts, and work a short-row toe (K to last st, W&T, P to last st, W&T... etc for 6 wrapped sts on each end, then pick back up 1 wrapped st each row until all 20 are back on the needle). Put the 20 provisional-CO sts on more DPNs to work in the round; I did 6 rounds stockinette and 3 of reverse-stockinette, with decreases in the rev.stock rounds [1 each edge of the body in the first 2 rev.stock bands, which is the belly-side of him, then 2 each edge until he tapered to a point], and turned him inside-out and stuffed him when the hole started to close up, before finishing into a point. The fringe is crocheted on around the belly-side at the edge, I suppose you could knit it on if you feel like picking up sts in bloody eyelash. Add cute widdle button-eyes and go forth to terrorise the neighbours, if your Mum doesn't steal it off you first. {cough}

And whilst Myfanwy is on vacation, George gets a temp to look after him. (It's supposed to have boobly eyes. Kiwis don't have boobly eyes...)

Also, for once I had entirely too much luck with tomatoes:

They are ripening nicely, and gradually, in the kitchen after the collective weight pulled the plant over and I had to put it out of its misery last week. This is the orange cherry tomato that's planted in the ground, which I think was called Sunsugar, and will be planted in a sturdier cage if it's invited back next year, for fear of it eating passersby.

And I probably should have knit the kiwi in that brown eyelash, but that would have been mental. :)

The Cybermat is cute -- but I absolutely adore the Kiwi!!!

And those are some mighty nice looking tomatoes, too. :-)

OMG your icon. :) My brain is supplying a second frame with cartoon Four running after it...

Hee! It's from The Daily Dalek -- while it doesn't always hit the mark as a comic strip, it almost always has good material for icon-making addicts. I did a batch for sharing back at the start of the month in my own LJ... ;-)

Oh my, you make wonderful stuff. I'm really impressed with your cybermats and quite envious of your tomato harvest!

This is the first year that any of our tomatoes have managed to outwit the squirrels and produce a measurable harvest, too...

The Cybermat is Full Of Awesome!

And...even if the new version doesn't have the fringe....just say it's modeled after the old one, so there you go!

....now I'm going to have to make one to hang out with my Daleks. XD
