Bugger. - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
Screen Blanking Episode number 9 just now (dark purple, as I went to click in a comment-box); George is OOW as of now, alas, and I still can't spare him to take him in... I'm starting to wonder if there's a correlation to temperature-plus-humidity, since he was mostly OK all winter.

Have you checked the fan? My laptop was slowing down, and turning off at semi-random temperature-correlated intervals, and I eventually discovered that the fan was clogged with cat hair. The tech spent half an hour on a thorough vacuuming, and it hasn't acted up since.

If you've already checked, or the symptoms don't fit, please excuse the unsolicited advice.

Well, he's done this since he was brand-new, so I doubt he could have sucked up that much hair that quickly; it's just that the data-set that's built up doesn't seem to correlate to anything much besides warm weather. (There was only one episode between the end of October and April, for example.) Could be the freakin' pollen-count, for all I can tell...

I know my laptop (PowerBook G4, refurbished and on its second harddrive) tends to get very cranky about playing nice when the temperature goes up. Less so since I've set it up with an external fan (no cooling pad if I want it to actually work), but it still will do so if I don't pay attention to how hot it gets.
