Tharr she blows chunks!
Well, that was a way to spend a Sunday I'd rather not have had to put up with...

The story actually begins on Saturday, when I woke up sniffling; I took some DayQuil and headed out to a gaming commitment, and was doing reasonably well, if subdued, until some time after dinner when I started to crash pretty hard with malaise and General Nasal Ooziness. Great, I thought, I knew I was going to come down with something a few days before this Big Bang deadline... So I went to bed thinking to sleep it off, which usually works.

Except that I woke up Sunday morning after about six hours' sleep, and after a period of debating whether to get up and pee, or eat something, I got out of bed and abruptly decided that no, we were going for option three here, "ohgodIgottathrowup". Great, I thought, staring at the remains of something I'd eaten after I'd got home from the gaming, it's not merely a cold, it's the flu.

The noisy hurling awoke the other member of the household, discussions were had, and I went and had a go at eating a small bowl of Rice Krispies to settle my stomach. No dice, they came back up half an hour later. By this point it was becoming apparent that I was in for a proper session of this, so I persuaded Other Household Member to make a run out for stomach-settling items such as ginger-ale and mint tea. This involved much grumbling, and more vomiting to make my case.

But the ginger-ale and crackers just kept coming back up. By the stage where there was nothing left to bring up but acid and bile, and I was gagging on small sips of water, I thought of sending Other Household Member out for a stronger anti-emetic, which involved more grumbling and vomiting to make my case. And then that wouldn't stay down long enough to work either. One can imagine that after some eight hours of this I was getting quite dehydrated as well as Bloody Tired Of It.

Finally, I persuaded Other Household Member, who is old enough to have something vaguely resembling medical care coverage, to call her doctor to see if there was anything they could advise in this situation short of having to head over to the emergency room. And, since it seemed to be a fairly simple case of having got to the point of "I am vomiting because I have been vomiting", which is mostly a matter of interrupting the vicious cycle, he was able to prescribe over the phone an anti-nausea drug that... well, let's just say this one wasn't administered orally. (And that it's a good thing that Other Household Member is my Mum.) And that, after one last bout, managed to calm the reaction enough that I could get some rest.

Situation appears to have stabilized now at "still have head-cold symptoms, but I can live with that"; breakfast has stayed put for about three hours now, so I think the worst is over. Not sure whether the underlying issue was "flu with congestion", or "cold + food poisoning", but I haven't been that sick in longer than I can recall...

It has to be some sort of bug--S & I both woke up today with scratchy throats. Nothing worse, so far. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

Hm, probably narrows it down to something I'd have picked up on the El Wednesday night, judging from the incubation period. Whether the congestion symptom is connected to the puking, I suppose you'll find out shortly...

Sorry you're feeling so rotten! :( I haven't got any symptoms that I recognize - I'm headachy in my cranial sinus passages still, but I was like that before you came over, so I suspect that might be due to the weather.

Keep an eye on yourself for a scratchy throat -- if you come down with that by, say, tonight, you caught it from me, but any later than that and it'd be from them getting it. {sigh} "Spirit of Cholera", indeed..
