EW EW EW EW EW - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
Okay, this is one for the "...Only you, Sam" files: verbatim copy of an email I just had to send regarding a tech-support issue I'm suddenly having --

Okay, this might be the weirdest tech-support email you're ever going to get...

There's a bug in my Tactile Pro. As in, there is a living insect, an earwig to be precise, crawling around inside one clear edge of my keyboard. (picture here: http://twitpic.com/1z7geb ) So I suppose what I need to know is, what would be the best way to get it out? I tried prying up the 'enter' keycap on the number-pad, only to discover that there's no actual way to get into the space along the edge of the keyboard from that direction. It's walking around in there and it's kind of creepy... Do I have to wait for it to die and then take the entire keyboard apart from the back? It's not as if it's not long since out of any warranty that I could be voiding, but I'm not keen on the thought of breaking something, as I've loved the responsiveness and heft of this keyboard since I bought it (so much so, in fact, that I'm continuing to use it with a new deskbound MacBook)...

Srsly, this is... I don't even know. And it's right where I keep seeing it when I glance at the mouse, so if it decides to stay about there until it dies... {shudder}

feeling: squicked

Maybe shop vac along the nearby keys in an attempt to suck it out? Or blow air at it to encourage it to leave using one of those air compressor for computer keyboard things?

Blech! Makes you wonder what's possibly hiding in your own, opaque keyboard O.o

Thing is, there's nowhere that I can see that I could access with an air-blast/suction, which is why I can't imagine how it got in in the first place... and now it's gone, which really has me stumped 'cos I didn't see if it came back out somehow or it's just crawled deeper inside... {shudder}

The only thing I can think is that it got in somehow through the keys. Earwigs can find their way into everything! YUCK, I hate them!

Try banging the keyboard keys down on your desk? Not so hard to break it, but firmly, to see if the ugly little thing shakes loose?

EW definitely GROSS!

It could have gotten in there while it was being assembled at the factory.
Not sure how to get it out thoug , best take the keyboard to a computer shop and ask them to get the bloody thing out.

They've been all over the flat for about a week and it's an old keyboard, so I'm thinking it has to have just happened or it wouldn't have been still alive and crawling around... {shudder}...

Yeah, I don't get it either. And that image is going to have me imagining itches all over for the rest of the day.

On a side note, you always have the crackiest things happen to you. Between the 'we didn't send in our census form because we don't speak English' bit and the 'oh, hey, a chicken' escapades, I've stopped trying to guess the latest happenings in your world, lol.

Srsly, for a city this big it's like I live on some sort of farm. Some sort of farm for crazy.

There was a keyboard that swallowed a fly,
I don't know why it swollowed a fly...

What is this I don't even ....

Yeah, definitely squicked. I second the suggestion of taking it in and having the keyboard taken apart. That may be because I really, really, really don't like insects.

Good luck!
