the Icon Meme. - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
the Icon Meme.
Okay, Meme Time, this one's from rengeek:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

and he'd like to hear the stories behind the following:

"Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch...":

The classic we've lost track of what we're doing in this scene, so let's cut to something else while we write the next page segue from old cowboy movies. Bessie here is modeling a halberd she picked up in Diablo 2's notorious Secret Cow Level, so I think those ranchhands may be in trouble.... And yes, this icon is generally the first one everyone asks about.

"Bat Country":

A quote from Hunter S Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that does seem to suit the Doctor's base personality. (I knew a guy who knew HST once. I move and shake.) I believe the shot is from the Five Doctors. Mmm, Semi-Scary Pertwee.

"His name is Alonso George":

The newest of my icons, in fact. My Muse had already noted the fact that Russell Tovey's other gig was set just the far side of the Severn, and dovetails nicely with Torchwood's usual subject matter... and a crossover was born. Several people can probably attest to the noise I made when Midshipman Alonso Frame turned up in-shot with Jack. (The headsplodiness that some recent news has brought on, well, you'd have to ask the cleaning service to verify that.)

"...What was the question?"

Because, um... Yeah. Pretty much the only reason to watch the David Lynch adaptation of Dune. Or is that just my Mum who does that?

"...Care Bears?"

There is a notorious fic out there, which you're just going to have to find for yourselves because I'm not that sadistic, which somehow manages to make non-consensual Care Bear bondage porn funny. I mean, besides the inherent bizarreness of the premise. When I needed to suggest an image so vile that even Captain John Hart would find it outré... I thought of that fic.

Oh, and yes, I made all of these. You think anyone else is this nuts?

feeling: amused amused

There is, actually, a worse Care Bear fic that someone just linked to a commentary on -- I screened it, thought about it for a while, and decided I was so skeeved out I didn't even want a screened reference to it in my LJ for fear it'd escape and call the cops on me for merely knowing about it, that's how bad it was. And I'm thinking I should blanket screen this post so people don't go trying to find me more... {shudder} I may not have many squicks, but apparently I do have some.

Oh, right, and, five icons for you to explain in your own LJ -- how 'bout commentary for

...Okay, if it had Simm!Master in it there might actually be a readable fic somebody could write for that general idea, but otherwise... yeah, notsomuch. There's "Adult Concepts", and then there's "No, Fuck, Seriously, What Were You Thinking?"...

Exactly! Some things should never see the light of day.

Well, y'know, I get the whole Your Kink Is Not My Kink thing, god knows I'm a weirdo, it's mostly that in my experience the one person in your life who doesn't grasp the internet-age notion of going "enh, not for me, moving right along" is going to walk into your blog right after you've posted the trenchant social commentary that just happens to involve a link to something nutty like Brazilian Thundercats porn to make its point... Not That This Has Ever Happened To Me, Of Course. ;)

Can't imagine that, or when your relatives finally see your NC-17 stories on your journal. One of my aunts has seen that, and even my father. Granted, my parents were always cool, but it still feels weird to have your Dad critiquing your slash writing. Not that I can talk from experience or anything...

It was an editor who'd dropped by to verify the blog-link I'd given her for a bio blurb... I mean, dude, it wasn't even my weird material, I'd only linked to it to illustrate a point (which I believe was "which is scarier, this or the death-of-the-middle-class article -- and which one did you read"), but it's basically the main reason I worry about the impression less net-savvy readers take away from this damn thing...

...And remembers the part about picking icons for you to go compose explanatory remarks about in your LJ --

(I totally thought that middle one was William Shatner in a Twilight Zone episode at first, for some reason...)

I'll go for this. Includes the icons on my RL journal, since it has more than this one.

Also, you're not the only one who's that nuts, I just tend to go for larger images when I'm doing things what are crazy with graphics.

(Oops, didn't see you were opening it up to the RL journal as well, let's try this again ;) ) OK then, let's see the stories behind:

And/or these from the RL LJ:

That last one is obviously Relevant To My Interests, as you can see from my icon here... ;)

I love David Lynch's Dune for all sorts of reasons (but that one's good too).

Heh, I looked for a cap from that scene for ages and then came across the pic completely at random. I think it encapsulates that moment of "...uh, what were we talking about again?" quite nicely. ;)

...And aww, but you've only got the 5 icons -- go explain them all, then! ;)
