Something like that. - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
Something like that.
Oh, now we're catching on that transit lines should maybe go somewhere? It occurs to me every time I'm on the L that it could probably be said that we lost the Cold War, given how that "helping other people is COMMUNISM!" reflex got to be ingrained to the point where our infrastructure is literally a ghost of what it could have been if we'd spent the last 60 years, Idunno, working together to see that everyone had basic health care and trains that connected to each other so you could get places without having to go downtown first... {sighs and goes off to sulk about losing the Olympic bid}

feeling: melancholy melancholy

Hey, at leaset you have a public transport system. Ours is vertually non existant. You cant travel by train because you are either not safe or the train just stopps because the powers been cut. Our bus routs only go into the centre of Johannesburg so if you are living on the east rand (like I do) you cant get from one town to another in this area by bus coz there are no bus routs that go that way. I suppose you can ohone a taxi but thier prices are exhorbitant.

Sorry to rant, I am also feeling rather cranky this morning.
Hope the rest of your day is better heh heh

That does actually sound like it sucks more than the CTA (although I still remain unconvinced about the existence of the #92 and the #66). The problem here is more that everything's predicated upon the idea that it's servicing a core city, but no one's bothered to re-examine that premise for the last 60 years so one ends up taking some circuitously peculiar trips across the cityscape as it's actually evolved in practice...

Yeah, it is annoying to have to travel all the way into the loop if I want to go somewhere on the northwest side, for example.

The really fun trip is getting to O'Hare when you're due east of it. Your options are basically taking the red line downtown to connect to the blue there, or schlepping down Lawrence on the bus to get the blue at Jefferson Park, which depending on traffic/connections might actually take longer... (I'm not sure if there's an E/W bus at all north of the Lawrence one, come to think of it. Even the one alleged to run on Foster demonstrably does not exist...)

But just try and get the funding for it without that kick in the pants that people from countries with real transit systems are pointing and giggling... {sigh}
