to all the flats I've loved before - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up
to all the flats I've loved before
Rehearsals for Moving Insanity Theatre continue: we've hauled the half-a-metric-fucktonne of stuff that was preventing us from packing the other half-a-metric-fucktonne of stuff over to the New Place, and now all that remains is to pack said remaining half-a-metric-fucktonne before the 12th of August, when three Nice Men With A Truck are coming to handle the removal of the furniture, such as it is. Unfortunately, the Old Place has abruptly flipped into summer mode, meaning that it's now at least 90 degrees in here at all times regardless of the actual outside temperature, and this "packing" activity has ground to a halt in the face of our sudden inability to breathe in here, or indeed stay awake at all. Now considering whether to take advantage of the relatively cool breeze I'm feeling right at the moment to try to wrangle some of the contents of my "office" into more suitable transport containers, or to skive off for the day and head over to the figure-skating event at the Gay Games. (Case FOR skiving off: hey, ice rink!; case AGAINST: having to get dressed...)

Supposedly, 1 in 6 Americans moves house each year, and the average American will move 11.7 times in a lifetime. So, how am I doing? Let's check the resume:

  • 2006 - : The New Place. Condo, 2BR/1ba w/den

  • 1997 - 2006: The Old Place. Studio/1ba.
    Reason for leaving: ...studio/1ba.

Reason for leaving: no reason to stay.

  • (1990 - 1991: Oxford. 1BR/1ba.

  • 1988 - 1990: College dorm, Waukegan, IL. Studio/1ba.
    Reason for leaving: year-abroad program.

    Reason for leaving: better deal.

  • 1977 - 1986: Sheridan. Condo, 2BR/2ba.
Reason for leaving: gross structural inadequacies.

  • 1973 - 1977: McClurg. 1BR/1ba.
Reason for leaving: purchase of condo.

  • 1970 - 1973: Illinois & State. Size unknown.

Which makes twelve altogether, not counting seasonal back-and-forth at college or spending most of 1998 holed up in my father's spare room like a refugee while the Old Place was dealing with some pest issues, so theoretically I can officially set down roots at the New Place. :) And now I hear Weasel falling off of some portion of the fucktonne, so I must dash to pick up the pieces. Graceful animals, my shiny metal ass...

feeling: informative

Wow... And *I* was bitching the other day about all the moving around I was subjected to in my youth... I think we are about neck-and-neck. Although my moves were through my childhood - If I had gone to college my tally would have been higher, probably.
