Well, that was nice of them. - Diary of a Necromancer
Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up

Well, that was nice of them.
Netflix just restructured its pricing in such a way that if I ditch the streaming, which I don't use anyway (George is capable, but not well-situated for a proper Viewing Experience), I can go to a two-at-a-time DVD-only plan for only a little more than my current one-at-a-time plan. Which is fabulous, since I hit the 500-item limit on a Netflix queue just a couple of weeks ago with all the "eleventybajillion episodes in this series, eleventymorebajillion in that one..." that I've been stacking up faster than I can go through sequentially in one lifetime, and I was about to look into making this change anyway... Sometimes stuff does work out for somebody, and sometimes it's even me.

I'm going to be canceling my Netflix, since the plan I have now and the services I get now will go up by $75/year.

I'll go to the library. Or Amazon streaming, and Hulu, and other sites.

I suspect I'm one of a very few people who stumbled into the odd sweet spot where this restructuring was actually very much in line with my existing needs, yeah -- god knows their last couple of rejiggerings have been various levels of DNW, but to be able to trade a service I had little use of for an upgrade to the part of it that I do need at a better price than I'd already been considering happened to work out pretty well for the Household...

I have made the switch too as I don't have the right software or hardware to use streaming, and streaming over dsl is not very good anyway, you really need a cable-speed connection.

Hopefully I'll even be able to upgrade back to 2 dvds at a time (I'm currently on the 1 at a time).

Ah, so I'm not quite the only person on the planet who's just as happy to have the DVD service uncoupled from streaming, then... (I recall being kind of annoyed when they did bundle the plans, because for me that was the price-hike for something that didn't fit well with my circumstances.)

I'm another person who is happy to go DVD-only. I've used the streaming service a handful of times, but the majority of what I want to watch isn't even available as streaming, and since I use it so rarely, it's definitely not worth $8/month. DVDs work fine for me. If there comes a time where everything is available as streaming, then I'd be up for switching, but not until then.

500 items in my queue, and ya wanna know how many of them would have been available for streaming? 84. I'm not sure whether this speaks to deficiencies in their streaming content overall, or if there are merely certain segments of their content that are currently not being covered, but for my particular areas of interest, I don't seem to have been their streaming model's target audience...
